What do scouts do?

We encourage our scouts to do their best at all they do. We give them opportunities to try new things like climbing, caving, archery and more.

In Scouts we work towards the 9 Challenge badges.

  1. Promise
  2. Community
  3. Fitness
  4. Creative
  5. Outdoor
  6. Global
  7. Adventure
  8. Expedition
  9. Outdoor Plus

We encourage our scouts to gain all 9 challenge badges but only 8 of these are required to gain the highest award in Scouts, The Chief Scout Gold Award.

Scouts must complete 1 through to 6 and then also complete  two more of Adventure, Expedition, or Outdoor Plus.In addition to the Challenge badges there are also 72 Activity badges, so we never run out of activities to do.

During the summer months we aim to be out of the hut as much as possible, playing wide games, cooking, working with axes and learning new skills.

During the winter months, we spend time working on badges mainly in the hut, where we are the warmest. Here we can work on badges that do not require us going outside.

We aim to teach new skills to the Scouts that they would not normally do anywhere else. We hold Skills Camps where we teach our Scouts skills like how to use an axe, pitch a traditional patrol tent and also how to light a fire and cook on it, also known as backwards cooking.
